Experienced Team Drives Orlando Data Center Operational Excellence

Having worked in the CoreSite Orlando Data Center for more than 12 years, I know firsthand how we achieve the uptime and enable the interconnection that keeps our customers’ businesses humming – and that’s our staff.

Welcome to CoreSite’s OR1 data center.

Above all else, I’m proud of our facility and my CoreSite colleagues. We know every inch of this building. You could ask any of our operations team about mechanical and power systems and they’re going to know the answer, because they have had experience with them one way or another.

Before I dig into the details on OR1’s capabilities, let me extend an invitation to tour OR1. We’d welcome the opportunity to learn about your business, discuss how we can deliver the data center services you need, and show you a little Southern hospitality to boot.

Ready for Retail, Wholesale and High-Density Use Cases

Located 12 miles from downtown and 15 minutes west of the Orlando International Airport, OR1 is easy to get to, whether you do business in the area or are visiting to work on your deployment.

OR1 is designed to accommodate businesses of all sizes and use cases – and to scale as needed. With 130,000+ square feet of premium data center space, OR1 supports customized deployments ranging from single locking cabinets to cages, private suites and build-to-suit options.

We can cater to cooling requirements for AI and similar workloads and to improve ROI from leased space. In fact, the building is designed to support high-density use cases as well as water-cooled deployments.

We take the security of our customer’s data very serious, which is why OR1 is set on private, fenced property and provides multi-layered security features, 24x7x365 monitoring by security-qualified personnel and redundant infrastructure to address data and asset protection compliance regulations.

The CoreSite X-Factor

CoreSite-trained data center technicians are onsite around the clock. OR1 is SOC 1 Type 2 certified.

While these components and controls are vital to how our facility operates, data centers certainly do not run themselves; the success of our operations relies heavily on the individuals that make up our operational teams.

With an average tenure of 7.5 years, our team knows the data center inside and out. That institutional knowledge is a big differentiator, but not the only one. We also have on staff veterans (many of which have Navy nuclear training) as well as technicians with extensive UPS and HVAC expertise. These skills are directly applicable to data center operations. I think that is what truly sets us apart.

We also recognize that building, maintaining and managing IT infrastructure is complex and time-consuming, and we’re here to help. Our experience means we’ve seen and solved most issues before. We add a little “grit” to our remote hands and move-in assistance services, because when it comes to data center partnerships, technical expertise is only half the battle.

Customers can spend long days or even weeks at the data center, far from home. To ease their days, we provide conveniences including Wi-Fi, office space, conference and training rooms, a kitchen, TVs and secure onsite parking. Our team strives to make extended stays as comfortable as possible. We’re here to provide recommendations on restaurants, sightseeing and more. It’s the personal touch and attention to detail that builds trust and loyalty. That’s the “CoreSite X-Factor.”

It’s the little things, like OR1’s well-stocked kitchen and a good cup of coffee, that can make your data center experience better.

Purpose-Built for Florida’s Unique Challenges

OR1 is designed with power, environmental and network redundancies to ensure uptime and, for the record, we back our commitment with a 100% uptime SLA. Our teams are trained in operational best practices and procedures specific to the data center.

Today’s heat-intense, high-density servers can pose issues for data centers. OR1 offers liquid cooling to effectively cool GPU-driven servers. We also have a 600-foot well onsite that serves as a backup water source for cooling towers.

To ensure power redundancy, OR1 utilizes a Twin Plant configuration with supplemental power provided by turbine jet engines. Unlike other backup generators that rely on diesel fuel, the jet engines utilize kerosene, which is easier to source during power outages, another advantage of being in close proximity to Orlando International Airport.

Every region has its own environmental challenges. California has earthquakes, Florida has hurricanes. Our Central Florida location largely protects us from the hurricane winds and flooding that impact Florida’s coastline. For added protection, OR1 is situated above sea level and outside the 500-year floodplain. The roof is rated to withstand 160 mph winds, which is the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane. Furthermore, storms degrade when they make landfall, and since we are more than 45 miles from either coast, we are confident in our roof’s ability to protect the facility in very challenging conditions.

A Connectivity Ecosystem that Connects Customers to the World

Our customers need to connect to their customers, partners and a distributed workforce. They also need to rapidly move and process massive amounts of data. These business demands amplify the criticality of secure, reliable, low-latency connections.

OR1 offers access to a private, scalable 100 Gbps network as well interconnection to 15+ on-premises carriers, 15+ networks, 10+ cloud providers and hundreds of peering options. Customers also have direct access to all major public cloud providers through CoreSite’s inter-market connectivity.

By riding CoreSite’s private network, customers achieve high-speed, dark fiber connectivity to CoreSite data centers in 11 major markets, including Miami, which provides access to subsea cabling for low-latency connections to Latin America, Central America and the Caribbean. Leveraging native cloud onramps, customers can significantly reduce data egress fees to help control cloud spend.

CoreSite recently installed additional points of entry (POEs) to introduce more carriers into OR1. The facility’s dynamic carrier ecosystem allows businesses to develop an interconnection strategy that supports their unique needs, while establishing diverse network paths to ensure resiliency. This wealth of options cannot be replicated in an enterprise data center.

Be a Future-Ready Enterprise in Orlando, a Future-Ready City

Typically, when people think about Orlando, they think about its theme parks. It’s much more than that. With a strong economy, low tax regulations and educated workforce, the city attracts businesses from across diverse industries. In the last couple years, corporate giants such as Amazon, Travel + Leisure Co., Lockheed Martin and Deloitte Consulting1 have relocated to, or expanded in, the city. Adding to Orlando’s business appeal is its innovative culture, which is nurtured by multiple business incubators and accelerators. To top it off, Florida’s public sector industry is thriving, with the 2nd largest aerospace industry in the country.2

As companies continue to embrace the Orlando market, the need to partner with a data center that helps them achieve their business goals is a clear priority. The CoreSite Orlando data center (OR1) offers the reliability, connectivity and security businesses need to support distributed workforces, global market reach, and the intense processing demands of artificial intelligence (AI) and other business applications.

Now, how about my offer to tour OR1? I am confident it will be well worth your time.
