How the Open Cloud Exchange Works
The CoreSite Open Cloud Exchange (OCX) is a software-defined platform that works by providing a single port into our Layer 2 Ethernet switching platform, enabling private virtual connections (VLANs) to multiple service providers. Provisioning is done in real time through a private online portal. The OCX also enables you to order and connect Layer 3 ethernet virtual circuits (EVCs). The OCX includes a virtual routing solution (Arrcus Connected Edge Multi Cloud Networking software) that enables cloud-to-cloud connectivity. With OCX and Arrcus Connected Edge, you can interconnect enterprise, network and public clouds to provide access to previously siloed capacity pools.80% Reduction in Data Transport Costs

Frequently Asked Questions
A direct connect is a private, dedicated network connection. A cloud connect utilizes the public internet.
Public clouds are managed by a third-party provider such as Google, Microsoft or IBM. Private clouds are established and managed by an enterprise and dedicated to that enterprise.
In the context of direct connection to public clouds, data egress is the transfer of data from the cloud to a specified destination such as an enterprise data center or service. Cloud providers typically do not charge for data to be brought into their cloud but do charge for data to be retrieved.
With direct cloud interconnections, you no longer need to rely on network providers for connections to each cloud provider. You also have access to a more diverse supplier ecosystem that can centralize resources to support rapid access to the public cloud.
Direct connection offers significantly lower latency. Application performance is optimized and better facilitates consistent application experience for users. Direct connect also allows for frictionless migration of virtual machines between dev/test environments.
